Mycelium

This strange, scifi like name is for a completely new material, that has ambition to make plastic obsolete. Briefly, mycelium is an organic based material, a fungus’ base, thats being grown in very short period. US company, Ecovative, has recently developped industrial technique to produce mycelium for high detailed packaging of any products and now experiments with use for building isolation. I know it may feel disgusting for someone to have a fungus in you livingroom. However this finally looks as sustainable future. There’s even a dutch architect Eric Klarenbeek who 3D printed a mycelium chair in cooperation with scientists… The future is bright then! Via Gizmodo & Mediamatic
