This kind of illustrations have followed me through my childhood. I remember smooth animals drawn in water ink watching me from every children book. At that time I probably couldn’t appreciate it. Moreover Mickey Mouse was forbidden fruit so I was actually seeking something like that. However, I have discovered Hanák’s illustrations recently and it’s a kind of miracle. It’s a shame that Mirko Hanak’s work becomes more recognized abroad than here in his homeland. I have to check my library to find more pearls forgotten in the dark.
